As I was bopping around the internet today, sitting in my office doing the things that real estate agents do, I accidentally ran across a website that I didn't know existed. It has been promptly bookmarked, and I'm going to share it with you.
The website is FoodHawk.com, and while it doesn't appear to cover surrounding communities (like Round Rock, home of my very favorite Cajun/Creole restaurant, Louisiana Longhorn), and some restaurants aren't on there yet, it's a quick and easy way to find the kind of cuisine you crave on any given evening.
Not only that, I managed to track down the former proprietors of what used to be my favorite Cajun/Creole restaurant (are you detecting a pattern here?), McGowan's, late (very late) of Pflugerville. (This is the very first place I had a religious experience at a restaurant, over their Bread Pudding with Chantilly Cream Sauce. Phil, my husband, was not all that sure we'd be able to go back after my reaction to the first bite.)They disappeared on me, and I was bereft until I discovered Evangeline's (a far piece to drive for dinner and back all the way to South Austin from Jarrell, but we did it a few times) and, then, in my opinion tastier and more convenient, by far, Louisiana Longhorn.
I clicked on a restaurant that I'd heard good things about, Ms. B's Authentic Creole Cuisine, and there, under the name of the owners, was Billy and Brenda McGowan! Huzzah!
One wonders what other wonderful websites about Austin and Central Texas food are out there just waiting to be discovered . . . if you know of any, please share.
