When the items we accumulate lose their usefulness or appeal, sometimes they become burdens.  We can throw them out, or sell them on ebay, or give them to friends, but here are a few other ways to pass that trash on to someone who'll consider it a treasure.

Freecycle is a worldwide phenomenon.  The Austin Freecycle group is one of the larger and more active.  There are also other Central Texas Freecycle groups serving Georgetown, Round Rock, Taylor, Bastop, Cedar Creek, Pflugerville, Marble Falls, Elgin, Copeland, Lexington, Manor and other communities.  (Check the Freecycle main website for one in your area.)  It's fun, it gets your "stuff" hauled off, and, best of all, it's free!

If books are your downfall, consider Bookcrossing (FREE YOUR BOOKS!).  What is Bookcrossing?  Well, according to them (and the OED):

bookcrossing
n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.

Check it out - it's pretty intriguing.

Another option is to send your books overseas to someone who may not be in a position to check out their favorite bookstore for quite a while.  Books For Soldiers (Care Packages for the Mind) is worth considering.

If you know of any other unique ways to pass on your unwanted items, send them to me and I'll share them here.
