Some months ago, while showing some houses in Round Rock, I happened to notice a restaurant that we'd not yet been to. Called "Louisiana Longhorn", the name, at least, showed promise, and it was in the old town part of Round Rock that I particularly like.

Finally, the other night, we found the time to go out to dinner, and that was my first choice. And what a choice it was!

First time I've had two religious experiences in one meal!

I started with the chicken and sausage gumbo. Now, if I do say so myself, I make a mean (and famous) turkey and sausage gumbo, so I'm somewhat picky when it comes to this delectable Louisiana fare. My husband was talking, I took my first bite, he took one look at my face and said, "Never mind. We can talk about this later." I had ordered a cup, to start my meal; what I received was more along the lines of a small bowl (the portions here are quite generous - plan on taking home a doggie bag). I am rarely able to finish a cup of gumbo and have a meal; however, this gumbo disappeared entirely in short order.

The rest of the meal was more than satisfactory. But we're talking about the superlative here, so let's get right to dessert. I had ordered the bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Long, long ago, in another restaurant in another town, I had a bread pudding with Chantilly cream sauce that had become the standard for all bread puddings. Suffice to say, this met and exceeded that standard.

If you're in Round Rock and you're hungry (best be hungry to go here), I highly recommend the Louisiana Longhorn. Their menu says they have BBQ; if it's anything like the quality of their Louisiana food, I may never eat anywhere else! Check out the menu before you go. Oh, and, yes, they do have Sweet Tea (though I found myself eyeing the bar).
